"Spotlight"

It was finally her time for the spotlight. She was the star in her team’s competition number. For her team to have a shot at winning the championship she would have to complete her dance solo flawlessly. She thought that she was ready but self doubt and her insecurities raced through her mind. She began to think what if I can’t do it what happens if I fall, what if I mess up or I forget a step.

The team’s name was announced. The girl and her team stepped out onto the floor. The upbeat pop music began to play. They began with the synchronized steps. The music switched to a different song as it is was time for the solo. She did a side leap, then a high kick, and multiple other steps. It was the last step to her routine and all she had to do was a triple turn. The girl told herself in her head I can’t do it, I’m going to let my team down if I don’t pull of this turn, I just can’t do it. She went to do her turn and a terrible thing happened, she fell out of the turn and even worse- onto the floor.

Her team didn’t win the championships or even place in the top 5. The girl felt awful about herself. Later that day her coach had a talk with her. She asked her what was going through her mind when she was going to complete the turn. The girl told her about how she hadn’t had any confidence in her actions and told herself that she couldn’t do it. Her coach said to her, “you see there’s your problem.  Without putting your self-confidence in the turn you had already failed before you had even begun. If you had told yourself that you could do it and had put in that confidence you would have succeeded before you had even started the dance routine”. Those words stuck with girl for her whole dance career. And as her coach had promised she succeeded before she did every dance routine.

So in conclusion without self confidence you cannot do or achieve anything. You need the confidence to give you that last little kick to go the full way without it you’ll simply fall out of the turn.
